Electronic Tax Invoices Now Available with Free Certificate... National Tax Service Launches 'Simple Authentication for Businesses' Service
Aimed at Enhancing Taxpayer Convenience
and Reducing the Burden on Business Operators
Going forward, business operators will be able to issue electronic tax invoices without a paid certificate. This follows the National Tax Service’s move to become the first government agency in Korea to allow businesses to use free, simple authentication to access the Hometax service and issue electronic tax invoices.
On April 22, the National Tax Service announced that it would introduce a new "Simple Authentication System for Businesses" starting this month.
Until now, only personal certificates based on resident registration numbers could be used on Hometax. However, business operators will now be able to use simple authentication based on their business registration number as well.
Previously, to authenticate as a business operator for issuing electronic tax invoices, companies were required to obtain a joint or financial certificate, incurring additional fees. This update will reduce such costs. Corporate business operators can also use the simple authentication system. Until now, individual business operators and corporations had to obtain a joint or financial certificate for electronic tax invoices (4,400 won per year) or a universal joint certificate (110,000 won per year) for authentication every year.
With this update, business operators can now use KakaoBank, IBK Industrial Bank of Korea, and KB Kookmin Bank apps to access the simple authentication service for free. A National Tax Service official stated, "With the introduction of this service, approximately 8.54 million business operators subject to tax invoice issuance can now use simple authentication through Hometax," adding, "The effect will be especially significant for some 100,000 small-scale business operators (simplified taxpayers)."
This reform extends the convenience of simple authentication to the business sector, enabling business operators to easily use Hometax's pre-filled and all-filled services as well as electronic tax invoice issuance.
