Bucheon City Records Lowest-Ever PM2.5 Level Under 7th Seasonal Management Program
Bucheon City in Gyeonggi Province announced on April 20 that it recorded an average fine particulate matter (PM2.5) concentration of 23 ㎍/㎥ during the implementation of the '7th Seasonal Fine Dust Management Program,' which was conducted from December last year to last month. This marks the lowest level since the program’s introduction.
This figure is lower than the Gyeonggi Province average for the same period (24 ㎍/㎥), indicating that Bucheon’s air quality has improved compared to the provincial average.
The Seasonal Fine Dust Management Program, first introduced in 2019, is a policy that implements stronger reduction measures than usual from winter to early spring, when high concentrations of fine dust are most prevalent.

As preemptive steps, Bucheon inspected measurement devices, promoted vehicle operation restrictions, and checked air quality in underground stations. In the public sector, incineration facilities operated at reduced capacity. In the transportation, industrial, and residential sectors, Bucheon strengthened emissions management, cracked down on air pollutant-emitting facilities, and conducted inspections for illegal incineration and fugitive dust.
In addition, the city promoted health protection measures such as operating fine dust shelters and checking indoor air quality, while also enhancing the provision of related information. When high concentrations of fine dust persisted for a certain period, a total of two emergency reduction measures were implemented, including the alternate-day operation system for public sector vehicles.
