Strengthening Collaboration with Local Economic Organizations and Related Institutions
The Sokcho Media Center, which has now been open for just over half a year, continues to attract a steady stream of visitors from all walks of life, regardless of age or background.
On November 3 of last year, Sokcho City opened the Sokcho Media Center on the first floor of the Sokcho Marine Industrial Complex Support Center, making it the first media center and a hub for media education and experiences in the Yeongbuk region. The two special lectures held to commemorate the opening demonstrated the high level of local interest in media, as registration closed on the very day it began.
This interest has not been fleeting, but has translated into consistent usage. Since its opening, the center has welcomed more than 1,300 visitors for various purposes, including education, facility rentals, equipment lending, and tours.
Of these, approximately 700 people visited the center for tours, spanning a total of 72 sessions. Visitors have included not only children from daycare centers and elementary and middle schools, but also groups of people with disabilities and senior citizens. These diverse groups have participated in newsroom and dubbing experiences, and have directly produced a total of 43 media contents, thereby helping to foster a culture of media enjoyment.
The center’s educational programs have also contributed to strengthening citizens' digital capabilities. From introductory courses to masterclasses, the center offers customized education tailored to the learner’s level. In addition, it provides specialized content for small business owners, such as practical AI training for smart stores and live commerce show host training. The total number of cumulative participants has surpassed 200.
Furthermore, the center has supported over 50 instances of equipment rentals and facility bookings, thereby lowering the barriers for citizens to engage in creative activities and faithfully fulfilling its role as an infrastructure hub for the local media ecosystem.

Recently, the center has also established a close-knit cooperative network within the local community by signing a series of agreements with local economic organizations and related institutions and groups. Through this, the center aims to expand the range of opportunities and support benefits available to citizens for participating in media activities.
Park Eunyoung, Head of the Citizens Communication Division, said, "I want to thank the citizens and local residents for their great interest and participation since the center’s opening. Going forward, we will continue to develop and operate a variety of programs so that everyone can freely utilize media and communicate in their daily lives."
