Hyundai Department Store Group Creates 'Carbon Neutral Forest' in Yongin... 6,000 Trees to Be Planted This Year
A Total Forest Project Covering 25.5 Hectares Since 2022

Hyundai GF Holdings, the holding company of Hyundai Department Store Group, announced on April 16 that it held a commemorative event for the creation of the "Carbon Neutral Forest" in Muk-ri, Idong-eup, Cheoin-gu, Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do.
The event was attended by approximately 60 participants, including Yoon Youngsik, Vice President of Hyundai GF Holdings, Song Junho, Director of the Northern Regional Forest Service, and Kim Seokkwon, CEO of the Life Forest organization.
The Carbon Neutral Forest, a project that Hyundai Department Store Group has been consistently promoting, is a forest created to absorb carbon dioxide emitted from daily life and industrial activities. This is a public-private partnership project jointly implemented by the Korea Forest Service, private companies such as Hyundai Department Store, and civic organizations.

View original imageSince 2022, Hyundai Department Store Group has created the first Carbon Neutral Forest by planting 30,000 trees across approximately 16.5 hectares (around 50,000 pyeong) in Baggok-ri, Baegam-myeon, Cheoin-gu, Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do. From last year, the group has also been developing the second Carbon Neutral Forest on a 9-hectare (around 30,000 pyeong) site in Muk-ri, Idong-eup, located near the first forest.
In the newly developing second Carbon Neutral Forest, about 6,000 trees were planted by last year, and approximately 6,000 more trees are scheduled to be planted this year. At the same time, Hyundai Department Store Group plans to continue forest management activities such as weeding and vine removal in the first Carbon Neutral Forest through 2027 to ensure its stability.
Yoon Youngsik, Vice President of Hyundai GF Holdings, stated, "We plan to make even greater efforts to create an environment for future generations," adding, "In addition to establishing the Carbon Neutral Forest, our group's flagship project, we will continue to expand various eco-friendly activities to respond to the climate crisis."

Meanwhile, Hyundai Department Store Group is carrying out eco-friendly and social contribution activities through its integrated ESG brands "Re.Green" and "We.Dream." Following the creation of an urban forest "Re.Green Park" in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province in 2024, the group also signed an agreement with Gwangju Metropolitan City last year to restore idle urban spaces into environmentally friendly city forests.
