Some of the men inside the truck, upon being discovered, raised their hands or placed them behind their heads and were led out one by one. During the process, orders in Arabic such as "Be quiet" could be heard.
The Israeli Ministry of Defense stated that these men had attempted to illegally enter the central region of Israel. They were apprehended at a checkpoint in the West Bank.
Authorities did not specify the motive for the attempted entry, but police described the men as "illegal entrants," a term commonly used to refer to Palestinian workers entering Israel without proper authorization.
Israeli police stated that it appears the men were attempting to travel to several cities within Israel and that a detailed investigation is underway. The Israeli national who drove the truck was found to be unlicensed and was arrested.
Since October 7, 2023, when the Palestinian militant group Hamas launched a surprise attack on southern Israel, Israel has revoked the work permits of tens of thousands of Palestinian workers. Since then, some residents of the West Bank, facing job shortages and financial hardship, have been attempting illegal entry into Israel despite the risks of arrest or being mistaken for terrorists.
