Sangju City, North Gyeongsang Province, announced on April 13 that during the monitoring of the purification process at the Donam Water Purification Plant on March 29, midge larvae were discovered. As a result, the city conducted a cause analysis and a detailed investigation in collaboration with the Daegu Regional Environmental Office and the Nakdong River Basin Waterworks Support Center.
The detection of the larvae was identified during the monitoring of the purification process. In response, the city immediately cleaned the purification and distribution reservoirs and strengthened the purification process. It was also confirmed that no larvae were found in the distribution reservoirs or in the water supply system to households, and related monitoring has been further intensified.

Ahn Tae-yong, Director of the Waterworks Office, explained, "So far, midge larvae have not been found to directly cause diseases or to have any confirmed health hazards, and there are no problems with the supply or use of tap water." He added, "We will continue to thoroughly inspect the entire tap water supply system to ensure the safe and clean supply of tap water so that citizens can use it with peace of mind."
