Hanam City, "The Entire City as a Campus"... Selected as Southern Gyeonggi's Leading Lifelong Learning City
Selected for the "Gyeonggi-do Lifelong Learning City Education Campus" Project
Secures 249 Million Won in Provincial Funding
Signs MOU with Gyeonggi Lifelong Education Promotion Institute
Realizing "Learning Welfare" for 330,000 Citizens
Hanam City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Hyun-jae) has been selected as the representative city for the southern region in the "2026 Gyeonggi-do Lifelong Learning City Education Campus Project," after passing a rigorous evaluation among 31 cities and counties in Gyeonggi Province.
With this selection, Hanam City has secured 249 million won in provincial funding, which will be invested to launch the full-scale establishment of a "future-oriented educational ecosystem," where learning becomes a part of daily life and the knowledge gained is shared throughout the community.
In addition, on April 9, Hanam City signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Gyeonggi Lifelong Education Promotion Institute for the successful implementation of the "Gyeonggi-do Lifelong Learning City Education Campus Project," marking the official start of the project. Through this agreement, the two organizations will build a cooperative framework for overall project operation and work closely together to expand regionally customized lifelong learning models.
The city has established a vision of "Hanam as a city-wide campus" and will actively begin building an "urban education campus" that organically redesigns the entire city as a learning space. This project goes beyond delivering knowledge; it closely connects local spaces, people, and resources to form a future-oriented educational ecosystem where all citizens can continually grow in their everyday lives.
The project will be intensively promoted from April to November 2026. Notably, Hanam City has turned the challenge of limited educational infrastructure into an opportunity, pursuing a differentiated strategy to transform the entire city into a single campus.
Currently, the city operates a total of 117 learning delivery systems, including one lifelong learning center as a hub, 10 regional lifelong learning centers, 18 lifelong learning villages, and 88 constellation learning spaces.
Specifically, nine core projects will be implemented, including the "Citizen Learning Star Campus," which connects various local spaces such as commercial facilities and cafes; the "Citizen Growth Village Campus," based on apartment communities; and the "Dream Campus," which combines youth AI digital competency programs with hands-on education for both youth and families. Through these initiatives, the city aims to shift the paradigm of lifelong learning from simple "consumption" to "production" that enhances urban value, and to establish a virtuous cycle where citizens become instructors and share their talents with others.
Moreover, by strengthening collaborative networks with related institutions such as schools, libraries, and care centers, Hanam City plans to complete the "Learning-Sharing-Growth" model, which will make tangible contributions to solving community issues and enhancing citizens' vocational capabilities.
