Samsung Seoul Hospital Cancer Center Becomes First in Korea to Receive ICHOM Certification
“International Recognition for Efforts to Implement Patient-Centered, Value-Based Healthcare”
Samsung Seoul Hospital Cancer Center announced on April 7 that it has become the first institution in Korea to receive certification from the International Consortium for Health Outcomes Measurement (ICHOM), a global organization that evaluates medical performance outcomes.
This certification is Level 1 in the field of breast cancer. It assesses whether the institution meets the required international standard indicators for measuring clinical outcomes and quality of life of patients. ICHOM is an international non-profit organization that evaluates medical outcomes with a focus on patient treatment results and quality of life. Currently, more than 500 institutions in over 60 countries use these standard indicators.
Since 2018, Samsung Seoul Hospital has been collecting patient-reported outcomes (PRO) from breast cancer patients during outpatient care after surgery and incorporating them into treatment. The PRO response rate is over 80%. The hospital utilizes a mobile-based survey system to assess patient conditions in advance and apply the information to clinical care. The five-year relative survival rate for breast cancer patients treated at Samsung Seoul Hospital was recorded at 97.6%.
With this certification, Samsung Seoul Hospital plans to expand the scope to other types of cancer beyond breast cancer. Kim Heecheol, Director of Samsung Seoul Hospital Cancer Center, stated, “With this certification, we will establish ourselves as a leading institution in patient-centered, value-based healthcare.”
