'Alleged Degree Forgery by Chinese Students'... Ministry of Justice Investigates Honam University
The Ministry of Justice Immigration Office is investigating Honam University, a private university located in Gwangju, over allegations of degree forgery involving Chinese international students.
According to Honam University and other sources on April 2, the Busan Immigration Office of the Ministry of Justice conducted a search and seizure of the university headquarters and international exchange staff in January.
The Ministry of Justice began an investigation after determining that degree certificates from U.S. universities, submitted by more than 100 Chinese students at Honam University as part of their visa applications, had been forged.
Although the Chinese students submitted Apostille documents, an international notarization procedure, there is a possibility that these documents were also forged.
In connection with this, four Chinese students who were enrolled at Honam University were ordered to leave the country and have since departed, while the entry of more than 100 incoming students has been indefinitely postponed.
