Reporter Assaulted at Decommissioned Train Site in Gokseong... Man in His 50s Booked
Under Investigation for Special Injury Charges
Conflicting Statements from Both Parties Complicate Fact-Finding
A man in his 50s has been apprehended by the police for assaulting a reporter from an online media outlet at a decommissioned train dismantling site in Gokseong County, South Jeolla Province.
On March 26, the Gokseong Police Station in South Jeolla Province announced that it had booked a man in his 50s, identified as Mr. A, without detention, on charges of special injury for injuring a reporter from an online media outlet after an argument.
According to the police, Mr. A is accused of assaulting a man in his 60s, identified as Mr. B, who works as a reporter for an online media outlet, at around 1:00 p.m. on March 24 at a decommissioned train dismantling site in Gokseong-eup, Gokseong County, causing injuries to Mr. B’s head and other areas.
At the time, Mr. B visited the site to cover the process in which Gokseong County was selling and disposing of some of the decommissioned trains remaining after their use in the local Train Village. He reported to the police that he was assaulted by Mr. A, who was involved in the site operations.
It is reported that the statements of Mr. A and Mr. B currently differ regarding the circumstances of the incident.
