"Adapting to the AI Era": Microsoft Completely Overhauls HR Structure Around AI
HR Function to Be Closely Integrated with AI Business Structure
Microsoft (MS) has completely reorganized its Human Resources (HR) division to align with its artificial intelligence (AI) business structure.
According to a report by Business Insider on March 25 (local time), Amy Coleman, MS Chief People Officer (CPO), stated in a recent email sent to all employees, "The pace of change is now exceeding what our existing operating model and decision-making systems can handle," and added, "Instead of scaling for stability, we now need a system that builds adaptability and enables us to lead the new pace of change."
This restructuring is focused on closely integrating the HR function with the AI business structure.
The previously dispersed engineering HR teams will be consolidated into a single team led by the Corporate Vice President (CVP) of each division, bringing them closer to the development organization. Additionally, the HR analytics team, which handles HR-related data, will be incorporated into the employee experience team to enhance data-driven HR decision-making.
Furthermore, a dedicated 'workforce acceleration' team will be established to oversee workforce redeployment and retraining in preparation for collaboration between humans and AI agents.
This restructuring also includes a significant overhaul of personnel. Chief Diversity Officer (CDO) Lindsay-Rae McIntyre will step down at the end of this month. MS does not plan to appoint a successor CDO; instead, the responsibilities previously held by the CDO will be absorbed into the newly created 'People & Culture' team. Vice President Leslie Lawson Sims will lead the 'People & Culture' division, focusing on strengthening the HR team’s capabilities and fostering corporate culture.
