Samsung Seoul Hospital Registers Patent for AI-Based Operating Room Allocation
Building a Hospital Management Model Based on the Digital Twin DOCC
"Expecting Efficiency Improvements Through Data-Driven Predictive Operations"
Samsung Seoul Hospital has secured a patent for its artificial intelligence (AI)-based operating room management technology.
On March 24, Samsung Seoul Hospital announced that it has completed domestic patent registration for its "Operating Room Allocation Apparatus and Method," which assigns operating rooms based on time-slot utilization rates.
This technology was developed on the hospital's digital twin-based management platform, the Data-based Operation & Communication Center (DOCC). The system creates a virtual environment that simulates hospital resources such as patient rooms, operating rooms, and medical staff, enabling analysis of operational situations and supporting decision-making.
The patented technology is centered on predicting the duration of surgeries using operating room usage data and optimizing the allocation of operating rooms by factoring in resource availability for each time slot. Unlike traditional experience-based management, the system allows for real-time, data-driven management.
This technology was unveiled at "HIMSS 2026," held in Las Vegas, United States, in March. In April, case studies on its operation will be presented at the "Korea Healthcare Congress."
