However, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, denied the negotiations with the United States, calling them "fake news." The outcome of the talks between the two sides is expected to be a turning point that could either escalate the situation or lead to a diplomatic resolution.
Before departing from Palm Beach International Airport in Florida to Memphis, Tennessee, President Trump told reporters, "We had very in-depth conversations," adding, "We have agreed on the main issues, and we have agreed on almost all the issues."
President Trump also disclosed that Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner had been negotiating with the Iranian side until the previous evening.
He said, "Today, we will probably have a discussion by phone. But very soon, we will meet in person," adding, "Iran wants an agreement, and we also want an agreement."
President Trump cited Iran's "abandonment of nuclear weapons" as a key condition for an agreement. When reporters asked what kind of agreement had been reached, he replied, "They will not have nuclear weapons. That is the first thing. They agreed to that."
Regarding Iran's stockpile of enriched uranium, he added, "If the agreement is finalized, we will go there ourselves and take it."
Additionally, President Trump stated that if a deal is reached, the Strait of Hormuz will be opened, and international oil prices will fall. In particular, he suggested that the United States could jointly manage the Strait of Hormuz with Iran.
He said, "The issue of the Strait of Hormuz could be jointly controlled," adding, "Perhaps I and the Ayatollah (Iran's Supreme Leader) could do it together."
President Trump stated that the counterpart he is currently negotiating with is not Iran's new leader Mojtaba Khamenei. According to a report by Axios, the U.S. negotiating team has been in talks with Speaker Ghalibaf.
However, Speaker Ghalibaf denied the talks with the United States on his X (formerly Twitter) account. He said, "There have been no negotiations with the United States at all," adding, "Fake news is being used as a tool to manipulate the financial and oil markets and to help the United States and Israel get out of the quagmire they are trapped in."
