Government Holds Second Meeting on Daejeon Factory Fire: "Central Victim Support Center Established"
Integrated Support Provided, Including Emergency Relief and Psychological Assistance

The government has established a Central Joint Disaster Victim Support Center, led by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, to coordinate the response to the fire at the automobile parts factory in Daedeok-gu, Daejeon, and to support those affected.
On March 21, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced that Minister Yoon Hojung presided over the second meeting of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, where measures for victim support and accident recovery were reviewed.

View original imageThe support center, set up at the Daedeok Culture and Sports Center, brings together 22 different support organizations in one location to provide victims and their families with integrated services, including civil complaint reception, emergency relief, medical and psychological support, consultation on loans, taxes, and the national pension system.
The Daejeon city government and Daedeok-gu district office will assign dedicated one-on-one case officers to victims and their families to provide close support.
The government will continue to hold briefings to accurately communicate the situation to the public, while also conducting a thorough investigation into the cause of the accident.
The Ministry of Employment and Labor, the National Police Agency, and the National Fire Agency plan to conduct a joint inspection to thoroughly determine the cause and rapid spread of the fire, the safety of evacuation routes, and the state of worker safety training.
Yoon Hojung, Minister of the Interior and Safety, stated, "Please make the safety of on-site firefighters the top priority during the recovery operation," adding, "The government will do its utmost to ensure the incident is resolved as quickly as possible."

Meanwhile, according to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the fire that broke out at the Daejeon automobile parts factory the previous day resulted in 10 deaths and 59 people suffering minor or serious injuries, for a total of 69 casualties. Among the injured were two firefighters. Four people who were inside the factory remain missing.
