They pledged to "stand united in opposition to a third term."
Preliminary candidate Hwang Kyunga stated, "This election is the time to end the 'eight years of stagnant administration' marked by showmanship and lack of substance, and to choose an 'innovative district mayor' who can lead a new and changing era. I cannot accept a candidate who rigidified the organization by forcing civil servants to align themselves and carried out one-sided policies that residents could not feel, yet is now seeking a third term."
The candidates emphasized the drawbacks of a third term, saying, "If a third term is secured, the administration will remain 'managerial,' projects will stagnate, and rather than listening to residents' voices, one-sided communication will only intensify. Over the past eight years, the actual quality of life and satisfaction of Nam-gu residents have plummeted, and local alleyway businesses have collapsed. Now is the time to stop attempts to maintain vested interests under the pretense of 'continuous development' or 'completing projects.'"
Hwang Kyunga further stressed, "With the launch of the Special Integrated City of Jeonnam-Gwangju, Nam-gu in Gwangju will become a key gateway connecting Gwangju and Jeonnam. Now, it is essential to raise residents' satisfaction with tangible administration, while also advancing wide-ranging development strategies such as establishing the Energy Valley Industrial Complex—a future growth engine for Nam-gu—and building surrounding support cities. For this, we need a district mayor with an 'innovative mindset' and proven competence."
