Bongok Kim, Honorary Director of Puriyoyang Hospital, Named Recipient of the 'Handok Female Doctor Academic Award'
Contributed to the Advancement of Rehabilitation Medicine
and Demonstrated Leadership in Public Healthcare
Handok announced on the 19th that it has selected Bongok Kim, Honorary Director of Puriyoyang Hospital, as the recipient of the 17th Handok Female Doctor Academic Award.
Honorary Director Kim graduated from Yonsei University College of Medicine and earned her master's and doctoral degrees at the same graduate school. She served as a professor in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at Chungnam National University College of Medicine, acting as a bridge between the medical field and policy-making. As one of the first board-certified specialists in rehabilitation medicine in Korea, she has been recognized for her significant contributions to establishing the rehabilitation medical care delivery system, promoting health for people with disabilities, and designing the regional rehabilitation hospital system, thereby laying the foundation for rehabilitation medicine in Korea.
During her tenure as hospital director, she demonstrated responsible leadership in the field of public healthcare by ensuring stable operation of medical institutions during national health crises such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) and COVID-19. In addition, she has contributed to the advancement of organizations for female doctors by promoting academic exchanges among female medical professionals both domestically and internationally and enhancing their global standing. She currently serves as the Honorary Director of Puriyoyang Hospital.

The Handok Female Doctor Academic Award, established by Handok in collaboration with the Korean Medical Women's Association, is presented annually to a female doctor who has made groundbreaking contributions to the advancement of the Korean medical community and has elevated the honor and status of medical professionals. The awards ceremony will take place on the 21st at the Seoul Medical Association Hall, where the recipient will receive a prize of KRW 20 million and a commemorative trophy.
