Dong-A University has begun construction of the "80th Anniversary Memorial Education Center" (tentative name), which is set to become the centerpiece of campus infrastructure innovation as the university approaches its 80th anniversary.
On March 17, Dong-A University held a groundbreaking ceremony at the new construction site in Newton Park on the Seunghak Campus, officially launching the building project, according to an announcement on March 18. The event was attended by Choi Hwii-wee, Chairman of the Dong-A Educational Foundation Board, Lee Hae-woo, University President, Shin Jeong-taek, President of the Alumni Association, board members of the Dong-A Educational Foundation, construction officials, and around 30 university members, who together participated in the groundbreaking.
The ceremony began with a progress and project overview report by Kwon Tae-jeong, Head of the Construction Management Headquarters, followed by remarks from the university president, congratulatory remarks from the alumni association president, and a commemorative photo session.
The Memorial Education Center, which has just broken ground, will consist of two basement floors and seven above-ground floors. The building will have a construction area of 3,712.36 square meters and a total floor area of 18,925.01 square meters, with an estimated project cost of approximately KRW 52 billion. Completion is targeted for April 2028.
The building will feature state-of-the-art educational and research facilities, as well as parking space for 187 vehicles. It is expected to help alleviate the university's parking shortage and improve student convenience.
President Lee Hae-woo said, "Our university's competitiveness has improved significantly thanks to the efforts of our members. I hope the construction of this Memorial Education Center will mark a new starting point as we move beyond our 80th anniversary toward becoming a 100-year university."
