The ceremony was attended by Kim Tae-heum, Governor of Chungcheongnam-do; Lee Wan-seop, Mayor of Seosan; Daniel Husso, incoming Global Head of BASF’s Care Chemicals Division; Lee Woo-seok, Representative Director of BASF Korea; Kim Eung-sang, Chairman of Hannong Chemicals; and Kyung Sang-ho, President of Hannong Chemicals, among other key stakeholders.
The plant, built on a site of approximately 12,234 square meters, is operated by BHCS, the joint venture in which BASF and Hannong Chemicals hold 51% and 49% stakes, respectively. Trial operations began in January, and with support from the Chungcheongnam-do provincial government and Seosan city, a swing tank was introduced to enhance production flexibility and supply stability.
This new facility serves as a production hub that combines BASF’s technological and product innovation capabilities with Hannong Chemicals’ manufacturing competitiveness, supplying high-quality nonionic surfactants reliably to customers across Asia. In the future, production will be expanded to include specialty surfactants, further strengthening BASF’s global manufacturing network.
Nonionic surfactants are key materials used across various industries, including chemicals, agriculture, cosmetics and personal care, as well as polymer and polyurethane foam stabilizers.
Daniel Husso, incoming Global Head of BASF’s Care Chemicals Division, stated, “Through our collaboration with Hannong Chemicals, we have significantly strengthened our ability to serve customers in the rapidly growing Asia-Pacific market. This plant will expand our global production network for nonionic surfactants and provide the agility needed to meet diverse industry demands.”
