Oh Se-hoon, Seoul Mayor Who Has Demanded Party Leadership Reform, to Announce Official Stance at 3 p.m. (Update)
Details of the Announcement Remain Undisclosed
Mayor Oh Demands Party Direction Shift as a Prerequisite
Oh Se-hoon, the Mayor of Seoul, who has postponed applying for party nomination in the local elections, will announce his official stance at 3:00 p.m. on March 17, 2026.
According to the Seoul Metropolitan Government, Mayor Oh is scheduled to make a statement regarding his position on the nomination process at City Hall at 3:00 p.m. on the same day. The specific details of his announcement have not yet been disclosed.
Mayor Oh has been urging the People Power Party, led by Chairman Jang Donghyuk and the current leadership, to implement tangible changes that the public can perceive. Previously, on March 8, the party’s deadline for local election nominations, he refrained from registering as a candidate, thereby demanding reform from the leadership.
The People Power Party subsequently adopted a resolution, signed by all its National Assembly members, to sever ties with former President Yoon Suk Yeol, and on March 12, the party opened an additional application period for the Seoul mayoral nomination. However, Mayor Oh did not submit an application, stating that “action is what matters.”
Mayor Oh has repeatedly emphasized that a shift in the party’s direction must come first, insisting that a personnel reshuffle of figures who have supported the “Yoon Again” line and the establishment of an innovative campaign committee are prerequisites.
Afterward, Chairman Jang suspended discussions on disciplinary measures by the Ethics Committee, which had become controversial for targeting several lawmakers aligned with Han Donghoon, and urged party officials to refrain from remarks or actions that could cause internal conflict. Despite these measures, there has been ongoing criticism within the party that Chairman Jang’s actions have failed to meet expectations.
