On March 17, Gyeongju City announced that it is actively promoting national government-funded projects in the water supply and sewage sectors, which are directly linked to citizens' daily lives, as part of efforts to improve the city's infrastructure.

By sector, there are 11 water supply projects amounting to 231.3 billion won and 19 sewage projects totaling 237.6 billion won.
The main projects include the renovation of aging water purification plants and the modernization of their networks, the expansion of sewage treatment plants, and the maintenance of sewage pipelines—essential urban infrastructure improvements that are directly connected to citizens' daily lives.
Gyeongju City is expanding the funding structure for water supply and sewage projects to center on national government funding, thereby establishing a stable foundation for project implementation.
In the past, water supply projects were primarily funded by local government bonds, while sewage projects relied on private investment, resulting in a financial burden of approximately 456 billion won.
In contrast, the recent shift to government-funded projects has enabled the city to secure a total of 468.9 billion won in project funding.
Government funding secured for water supply projects also saw a significant increase, rising from around 49.3 billion won between 2010 and 2017 to 231.3 billion won between 2018 and 2026.
Furthermore, the construction of water supply and sewage facilities, material supply, and the deployment of related personnel are expected to have a positive ripple effect on the revitalization of local industries.
The city is continuously working to improve urban life infrastructure by expanding water supply and sewage coverage rates from the previous 60-70% to as high as 90% through the renovation of aging water purification plants, modernization of networks, and expansion of sewage treatment plants.
