Hwaseong Special City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Jung Myunggeun) held the "2026 Private Environmental Monitoring Group Launch Ceremony" at the Hwaseong Green Environment Center on the 16th, officially commencing activities to monitor environmental pollution and prevent environmental safety accidents. The purpose of this launch event was to strengthen monitoring capabilities through voluntary citizen participation and to create a pleasant urban environment.

View original imageThe private environmental monitoring group consists of 12 ordinary citizens who are highly interested in environmental conservation. They are responsible for filling the monitoring gaps during times and in areas that administrative personnel may find difficult to cover, offering a citizen’s perspective.
The event included the presentation of appointment certificates to the monitors, as well as job training on methods for monitoring environmental pollution and procedures for reporting violations.
Going forward, the appointed monitoring group plans to conduct patrols during vulnerable hours such as weekends in each region, focusing on areas with frequent complaints, livestock farms, and river surroundings. In particular, they will engage in on-site activities such as monitoring businesses emitting odors, checking for dust and noise damage at construction sites, and watching for illegal waste dumping. They also intend to strengthen scientific monitoring by conducting on-site inspections using portable measuring devices, thereby contributing to improving residents' quality of life.
