A humanoid robot chased a person in Macau, China, prompting the police to respond to the incident.
According to reports from Macau's public broadcaster TDM and others, on March 5 (local time), an incident occurred in the Patane district where a humanoid robot followed and startled a woman in her seventies. At around 9 p.m., the woman was walking on foot while looking at her mobile phone when a Unitree G1 robot began following her.
According to the police, after being startled by the robot, the woman complained of feeling unwell and was transported to a hospital. However, it was reported that there was no physical contact between the woman and the robot, and she did not sustain any injuries. After being examined by medical staff at the hospital, she returned home.
A police investigation revealed that the robot belonged to a nearby private academy and was being remotely controlled by a man in his fifties. The man explained that he was conducting a test run to improve the robot's operation and use it for promotional purposes for the academy. The police advised the man to exercise special caution when operating robots in public places so as not to startle pedestrians or put them at risk.
The academy stated that, at the time of the incident, the robot was in the process of leaving the area. They explained that the woman, who was looking at her phone, stopped in the middle of the path, so the robot was simply waiting behind her because it could not pass in front of her.
