It aims to create an environment where tourists can safely enjoy local cuisine.
The designation ceremony for the Food Safety Zone and the unveiling of the Jungang Market signboard were held near Gwanpungheon on the same day, attended by Oh Yu-kyung, Commissioner of the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, Choi Myung-seo, Mayor of Yeongwol-gun, as well as officials from related organizations and merchant associations.
Yeongwol Jungang Market, located adjacent to Gwanpungheon and a popular destination for visitors, is a representative local food venue in Yeongwol, with numerous restaurants specializing in regional dishes such as buckwheat pancakes and cabbage pancakes. With this designation, 18 restaurants in the market have been recognized as Food Safety Establishments and will now be subject to more systematic hygiene management and food poisoning prevention measures.
In particular, this is the first case in Gangwon Province where a traditional market has been designated as a Food Safety Zone, and it is expected to have a positive effect on both local tourism and the revitalization of traditional markets.
Yeongwol-gun plans to continue its efforts to create a safe dining environment by supporting hygiene management and promoting food poisoning prevention in the future.
