Choi Eunseok Inspects Daegu Robotics Sites: "A Strategic Industry to Lead Daegu's Economy"
"Mobilizing All Resources to Make Daegu the Capital of Robotics"
On March 12, Choi Eunseok, a member of the People Power Party, visited the Daegu robotics industry site to discuss ways to strengthen industrial competitiveness.
On this day, Assemblyman Choi visited both the Korea Institute for Robot Industry Advancement (KIRIA) in Daegu and Hyundai Robotics. Previously, through his '803 Daegu Master Plan' pledge, Choi had identified the robotics industry as one of the eight key strategic sectors to drive Daegu's economic transformation.
Assemblyman Choi first visited KIRIA, where he received a briefing on the status of policies to foster the robotics industry, systems for supporting businesses, and global market entry strategies. He then toured research and demonstration equipment as well as testbed facilities, listening to feedback from the field.
Assemblyman Choi stated, "In the 803 Daegu Master Plan, robotics was set as the top priority for Daegu's development," adding, "If I become mayor of Daegu, I will mobilize all available resources so that Daegu is recognized as the robotics capital of Korea." He also emphasized the need for practical robotics education for those working on site, highlighting the importance of pilot projects and securing budgets.
At Hyundai Robotics, which he visited next, Assemblyman Choi inspected the industrial robot production process and technology development status, and exchanged opinions with company representatives on expanding investment and improving site operation conditions. At this meeting, several key issues were raised, including the exclusion of large companies from military service exemption benefits, difficulties in securing top talent due to a reluctance to work in regional areas, and problems with underdeveloped supply chains and industrial infrastructure.
Assemblyman Choi said he would actively consider improving the military service exemption system for master's and doctoral-level professionals, as well as tax support measures to foster the robotics industry. He stated, "With Hyundai Robotics relocating to Daegu, job creation and tax contributions are making a significant impact on both the local community and the national economy," and added, "If I become mayor of Daegu, I will build Daegu as an industrial city where companies invest and talent gathers, approaching it from a private sector CEO perspective, not as a government official."
