The Gyeonggi Province Resident Construction Supervision Group is composed of 30 experts specializing in roads, railroads, rivers, and architecture. The group combines the objective perspective of external professionals with the viewpoint of local residents to conduct inspections, helping to address deficiencies on-site and contribute to the creation of a safer construction environment.
First introduced in 2019 by Gyeonggi Province—the first such initiative in South Korea—the Resident Supervision Group has inspected a total of 173 construction sites and identified and corrected 3,769 issues as of last year. The operation of the Gyeonggi Province Resident Construction Supervision Group has become a benchmark for other local governments and public institutions and is recognized as a practical solution for preventing poor construction practices on-site.
This year, Gyeonggi Province plans to enhance the voluntary quality and safety management capabilities of construction personnel by newly introducing a "Self-Assessment Checklist for Implementation Status." This checklist will allow for detailed monitoring of all processes, from the structural safety of buildings to the final finishing quality.

This initiative will be used to identify potential risk factors in advance and establish preventive measures throughout all stages of construction, from the review of design documents at the outset to on-site management. In addition, the province plans to conduct close inspections of small-scale construction sites, where safety management systems may be relatively weak, in order to address any safety blind spots.
Bae Seongho, Director of the Construction Bureau of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Since these are facilities used by residents, the main mission of the Resident Construction Supervision Group is to inspect and improve even the smallest details that might otherwise go unnoticed from the residents' perspective. We will actively support the group's activities to foster a safer construction environment and further enhance the quality of public facilities."
