Cosmax to Secure Skin Data in Indonesia... Building a 'Microbiome Map'
Joint Research with Indonesian National Agency for Research and Innovation (BRIN)
Skin Microbiome Analysis of 410 Participants
Developing Customized Cosmetics Reflecting Hot and Humid Climate
Laying the Foundation for Expansion into the Southeast Asian Market
Cosmax, a global cosmetics ODM (Original Development and Manufacturing) company, is launching a skin microbiome analysis project targeting Indonesian consumers. The company plans to systematically collect data on skin characteristics that appear in tropical climates, build a comprehensive database, and use this information to develop locally tailored cosmetics.
Cosmax Indonesia announced on March 10 that it recently signed a joint research agreement in Jakarta with the Indonesian National Agency for Research and Innovation (BRIN) to establish the 'Nusantara Skin Microbiome Map.'
On February 23, at the Indonesia National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) in Jakarta, Indonesia, a joint research agreement ceremony was held. As an integrated research organization, it conducts its own research in key strategic industries such as bio and health, while also promoting collaborative research and technology commercialization with private companies. Through this new partnership, Cosmax intends to build a long-term cooperative relationship with local research institutions and seek out a variety of research opportunities that can lead to product development.
Through this joint research, Cosmax will begin building a microbiome database that reflects the skin environment of Indonesian consumers. The company plans to conduct a detailed analysis of the distribution and characteristics of skin microorganisms among a total of 410 participants with healthy and acne-prone skin, in three major cities on Java Island: Jakarta, Yogyakarta, and Surabaya.
Indonesia, with its tropical climate, experiences high temperatures and humidity, resulting in a higher proportion of oily and combination skin types. According to a survey by the Sensory Lab at the Cosmax Indonesia R&I Center, about 80% of teenagers and people in their early twenties have experienced or are concerned about acne-prone skin. In addition, more than half of women in their twenties identified acne issues as their main skin concern.
Cosmax plans to use the data obtained from this research to strengthen cosmetics research that reflects climate characteristics and to develop products targeted at Southeast Asian markets. In particular, as demand for competitively priced and personalized functional cosmetics is rapidly increasing in Indonesia, the company intends to expand the development of reasonably priced products tailored to the specific skin characteristics of local consumers.
