Dobong District Launches Municipal Waste Reduction Drive... Separation Pledge Challenge
Secured 130 Million Won Grant from Seoul Metropolitan Government
On March 9, Dobong District in Seoul (Mayor Eon-Seok Oh) announced that it would embark on a comprehensive initiative to reduce municipal solid waste. The district has secured a special adjustment grant of 130 million won from the Seoul Metropolitan Government and will simultaneously promote efforts in three areas: publicity and education, waste reduction campaigns, and the establishment of separate collection infrastructure.

The district will also encourage voluntary resident participation through outreach education programs on waste separation and citizen pledges.
Campaigns will be conducted throughout the district. This year, the newly launched "Reduce Waste, Add Value!" campaign will promote resource circulation and showcase eco-friendly products in collaboration with the Upcycling Plaza. The district will also operate participatory programs such as "Municipal Solid Waste Composition Analysis (Bag Opening) Experience," where residents can directly examine the composition of household waste.
In terms of infrastructure, Dobong District will install separate collection stations and RFID-based food waste weighing machines in small-scale apartment complexes and areas with severe mixed waste disposal. Additional unmanned transparent PET bottle collection machines will also be installed.
The district, in cooperation with the Seoul Metropolitan Government, is currently conducting the "100,000 Citizen Waste Separation Pledge Challenge." Forty departments of the district office and 14 neighborhood community centers are collecting offline pledges, and the participation period runs until April 30. Participants who complete the pledge will receive 500 Eco Mileage points (equivalent to 500 won), which can be used for Seoul Pay, Onnuri gift certificates, apartment management fees, and tax payments.
