After establishing a comprehensive relocation plan in 2017, construction began in January 2022 and was completed in December 2025. Currently, the new headquarters is undergoing final preparations, including the creation of a smart office and move-in cleaning.
The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education plans to relocate to the new headquarters over the course of about a week starting from March 13. Each department will move sequentially to ensure there are no disruptions in supporting the educational field at the start of the new school year.
To ensure uninterrupted administrative services, the civil service office will be moved over the weekend. On the day of the move, each department will respond to civil service inquiries through the Seoul Education Call Center at '1396'.
The new headquarters of the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education was established with the goal of creating a comprehensive educational administration platform that strengthens the planning and coordination functions of educational policy, advances the system for supporting schools, expands communication with students, parents, and citizens, and provides spaces that support future-oriented education.
The lower floors house the civil service office, lounge, and an area for promoting and exhibiting educational policies. These spaces have been designed so that visitors can easily understand the policies of Seoul’s educational system and the student- and citizen-friendly direction of the new headquarters’ operations at a glance.
The middle and upper floors concentrate the spaces for each department responsible for policy, as well as meeting and collaboration spaces. By moving away from the former dispersed structure, the office has strengthened its role as a policy control tower, capable of responding quickly to educational issues.
