Daedong Navigates Unstable Export Markets with 'Small but Mighty' Models
"New LK Tractor" to Launch Sequentially in North America and Europe in Q2 and Q3
Aiming for 54,000 Units Sold Globally Over Five Years
Korean agricultural machinery company Daedong has launched its global diversification strategy for this year, focusing on compact tractor models ranging from 25 to 60 horsepower. With growing volatility in export markets due to the economic downturn, tariff pressures, and concerns over rising logistics costs stemming from the recent Middle East conflict, Daedong believes that compact tractors could serve as a highly competitive strategic model. Compact tractors have demonstrated clear demand, accounting for more than half of all units sold in the North American market recently.
On March 6, Daedong announced that it has raised its compact tractor market share targets in North America to 12.5% in the Northeastern United States and 20% in Canada for this year. Last year, Daedong’s market share in the North American compact tractor segment stood at 11.6%, and in 2024 it was 11.4%. Although this market does not typically see drastic changes, the company believes this year could mark a turning point capable of shifting the overall trend.
The tractor market is divided into SCTs (sub-compact tractors) with 15 to 25 horsepower, compact tractors, and utility tractors with more than 60 horsepower. In January, 56% of all tractors sold in the North American market were compact tractors, making it the largest segment by unit sales. In Europe during the same period, compact tractors accounted for 32% of sales. Industry experts note that this market is just as important as the higher-priced, larger tractor segments.
Daedong is a traditional powerhouse in this sector, having secured a 51.3% share of the domestic compact tractor market last year. Leveraging this competitive edge, Daedong plans to first introduce its compact tractor strategic models in the domestic market and then sequentially roll them out to North America and Europe, targeting a broader global market. The company’s recent launch of the new LK series for domestic fruit farms is also part of this strategy.
This model features a compact body measuring 3.26 meters in length and 2.4 meters in height, allowing it to maneuver between trees in orchards and perform a variety of tasks such as mowing, branch shredding, and pesticide spraying. Despite its small size, its lifting capacity for implements has been significantly increased from the previous 740 kgf (kilogram-force) to 953 kgf. It also includes a feature that allows all four hydraulic hoses required for implement operation to be connected or disconnected simultaneously. A telematics (TMS) system has been incorporated, enabling remote management as well.

Daedong plans to sequentially release the new LK series in the North American market in the second quarter and in the European market in the third quarter. In North America, the company will offer premium specifications to broaden its customer base, while in Europe, it aims to enhance market competitiveness through a premium strategy and region-specific customization. The sales target for this product is a cumulative global total of 54,000 units over the next five years. Yu Jemyung, Head of Product Planning at Daedong Group, stated, "The new LK series is a strategic model that will be validated for product quality and performance in the domestic market before expanding globally. Based on our experience accumulated in Korean agriculture, we will target the premium compact tractor markets in North America and Europe."
