Jang Donghyuk: "President Lee Focused Only on Propping Up Stock Prices for Elections With Taxpayer Money... Urges Crisis Countermeasures"
"Stock Market Has Essentially Become a Gambling Den... Claims of Lee Jaemyung's 'Leading the Market' Also Raised"
On March 5, Jang Donghyuk, leader of the People Power Party, commented on the recent extreme fluctuations in stock prices, saying, "President Lee Jaemyung is proposing to inject an additional 100 trillion won into the stock market. This means he intends to continue artificially inflating stock prices ahead of the local elections by pouring in taxpayer money." He added, "The stock market has essentially become a gambling den, with prices soaring and plummeting wildly."
Attending the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly that afternoon, Jang stated, "As fears of a major economic crisis loom, companies are feeling uneasy due to the high exchange rates, and ordinary citizens are being forced to line up at gas stations every day as skyrocketing oil prices and inflation make even basic shopping difficult. Yet, the administration is fixated solely on propping up stock prices."
Jang first pointed out, "Of course, the direct cause of this crisis is the U.S.-Iran war," but continued, "However, we cannot avoid criticizing the incompetence of the Lee Jaemyung administration, which has repeatedly failed in Korea-U.S. trade negotiations and has not even managed to secure a single Korea-U.S. currency swap agreement."
Jang went on to say, "Although the situation may appear to have stabilized temporarily, the risk of a prolonged war or the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz still remains." He further stated, "Instead of dismissing public anxiety and concerns as 'fake news,' the government should prepare countermeasures for the worst-case scenario."
Jang also commented on the government's approval of the so-called "Three Judicial Destruction Bills" (the Lawsuit for Retrial Act, Judicial Distortion Crime Act, and Supreme Court Justice Expansion Act) at the Cabinet meeting that day, saying, "Now the Lee Jaemyung administration will place the judiciary under its power and accelerate the path toward dictatorship even more." He stressed, "In a country where those in power write the verdicts and the administration stands above the judiciary, there is no room for the rule of law or democracy, and all the harm will ultimately fall upon the people."
