Gwangju Seogu Recruiting Restaurants for "100 Neighborhood Alley Restaurants" Initiative
Discovering Hidden Eateries
Nurturing Local Signature Restaurant Brands
Seogu District of Gwangju Metropolitan City is launching the "100 Neighborhood Alley Restaurants" initiative to revitalize local alleyway businesses. The district is discovering outstanding hidden eateries throughout the region, nurturing them into representative local restaurant brands. Currently, 84 establishments are operating as certified alley restaurants.
This year, the program will target small-scale restaurants and bakeries within Seogu. After document screening, on-site inspections, online resident voting, and expert review, a comprehensive evaluation of hygiene, taste, service, and local character will be conducted, with approximately 16 establishments to be selected in the end.
Eligible applicants must be small restaurants or bakeries with a total floor area of 150 square meters or less, operating for at least one year after business registration within Seogu as of the announcement date. Franchise outlets, both affiliated and directly operated, as well as karaoke bars and entertainment bars, are excluded. In addition, there must be no record of administrative sanctions within the past year.
Selected businesses will receive tailored support, including: ▲official designation plaque issuance ▲professional management consulting ▲creation of promotional content for social media. In particular, this year, the district plans to strengthen kitchen hygiene consulting to facilitate designation under the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety’s hygiene rating system, and to grant priority when applying for environmental improvement projects in the hygiene sector.
Applications are open until the 20th. Interested businesses can apply in person at Seogu Health Center’s Health and Hygiene Division, or submit their applications by registered mail or email. For more details, applicants can check the public notices on the Seogu District Office website or contact the Health and Hygiene Division at the Seogu Health Center.
Park Chaeyoung, Head of the Health and Hygiene Division, stated, "Through the Alley Restaurant project, we aim to discover hidden local restaurants and continuously support small business owners with marketing and hygiene management so they can build competitiveness and become self-sustaining. We hope to see active interest and participation from capable business operators."
