Seogu announced that it has converted 131 out of a total of 235 senior centers into smart senior centers, and that full-scale operations began this month.
Smart senior centers are digital welfare services that install information and communications technology (ICT)-based video platforms in traditional senior centers to offer a variety of online programs. Last year, Seogu conducted a pilot operation at 50 senior centers, and has since completed system installation at 81 additional centers, further expanding its operational base.
Through the video platform, Seogu provides a range of programs such as singing classes, health exercises, laughter therapy, line dancing, and yoga. These programs aim to help seniors strengthen their muscles and improve their sense of balance, supporting healthy leisure activities and enhancing overall quality of life.
In particular, starting this year, Seogu is introducing a dementia prevention program called 'Cognisize' at smart senior centers in collaboration with the Seogu Public Health Center Dementia Safety Center. Cognisize is a combined training program that simultaneously conducts cognitive activities and physical exercises, which is expected to improve memory and concentration while stimulating the brain and enhancing physical vitality.
Seogu plans to eventually convert all local senior centers into smart senior centers. Additionally, the district intends to systematically analyze operational data to enhance program effectiveness and strengthen connections with medical and welfare institutions, thereby further expanding a prevention-focused welfare system.
