As seasonal changes occur in spring, the "Mobile Medical Center" program, which provides rotating village medical visits, is playing a significant role in managing the health of the elderly and addressing gaps in medical coverage.
According to Cheongyang County on March 5, the county health center visited the village hall in Nokpyeong 1-ri, Bibong-myeon on March 4 to provide customized medical consultations and health management services for residents. Medical staff visited the village in person, checking residents' health statuses and offering both consultations and treatment on-site.
The "Mobile Medical Center" is a flagship public health policy that the county has continuously expanded. It is a visiting healthcare service in which medical professionals travel directly to villages in medically underserved areas where residents have difficulty visiting hospitals.
In particular, the county is strengthening its local public healthcare safety net by establishing a system of village-level medical visits, taking into account the challenges of rural aging and limited access to medical services.
This year, rotating medical visits are being conducted in 30 villages selected through advance applications, following schedules set for each township and town.
Medical staff use locations such as village halls as bases to provide residents with medical consultations and basic treatment, health screenings for blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol, chronic disease counseling, medication guidance, and health education, focusing on prevention and management.
In particular, given the prevalence of musculoskeletal pain such as back and knee pain among the rural elderly, traditional Korean medicine services, including acupuncture treatment and consultations, are also provided in parallel.
Additionally, the medical staff go beyond simple consultations to comprehensively assess residents' health conditions, inform them if ongoing chronic disease management is necessary, and offer lifestyle improvement counseling.
Plans are also in place to conduct intensive checkups to prevent the worsening of chronic conditions such as hypertension and diabetes, which can be affected by temperature fluctuations during seasonal changes.
The county health center aims to go beyond one-time consultations by strengthening a system of continuous management through regular visits, thereby improving the effectiveness of health management for rural residents.
