LG CNS Unveils First "AI Box" in Busan... Targeting the KRW 700 Trillion AIDC Market
Compact Data Center Housing 576 GPUs
Expandable to Hyperscale AIDC
Optimized for AI Environments with LG Group’s Advanced Technologies
LG CNS is accelerating the expansion of the domestic and global AI data center (AIDC) market by unveiling its compact data center, the "AI Box," which can house up to 576 graphics processing units (GPUs) in a single container.
On March 5, LG CNS announced that it will build its first AI Box at the Busan Global Cloud Data Center site. Construction is scheduled to begin this month, and the company plans to establish a large-scale campus by integrating approximately 50 AI Boxes on a site covering 27,179 square meters (about 8,221 pyeong), thereby responding to domestic demand for AI infrastructure.
The AI Box does not require the construction of a separate building, significantly reducing setup time. While conventional data centers typically take about two years to build, the AI Box can be deployed in roughly six months. Based on a standardized, packaged model, it can respond quickly when rapid data center construction is needed.
Its modular design also provides outstanding scalability. Not only can each container be operated individually, but dozens of containers can also be combined step-by-step to expand into a hyperscale AI data center. This allows customers to reduce their initial investment burden and flexibly expand their infrastructure as needed.
The AI Box consists of an electrical room (housing UPS, transformers, and switchboards) responsible for power infrastructure, and a server room (containing servers, GPUs, and cooling equipment) for IT operations. Generators, battery rooms, and chillers are installed externally, enabling stable power supply and efficient thermal management. Each AI Box supports up to 1.2 MW of server power (IT load) and can accommodate up to 576 GPUs.
The AI Box incorporates LG Group’s expertise. LG CNS leveraged its approximately 40 years of experience in data center design, construction, and operation (DBO) to create an integrated design that brings together the AI platform, power and cooling infrastructure, and IT equipment. In particular, LG Electronics' cooling distribution unit (CDU), precision air conditioners, and chillers, as well as LG Energy Solution’s batteries for uninterruptible power supply (UPS), have been packaged together to optimize the AI Box for high-power, high-density AI environments.

LG CNS's strategy is to become a leading AI infrastructure package provider in the AIDC market, which is projected to reach approximately 700 trillion won by 2030, through the AI Box. Jo Heonhyeok, Executive Director of the Data Center Business Unit at LG CNS, stated, "The AI Box, which provides integrated solutions from AI servers to power, cooling, and operations, will lead a new paradigm in the data center business. Based on our success in the domestic market, we will expand our business into global markets such as Southeast Asia and North America."
