Gwangyang City in South Jeolla Province announced that during the 25th Gwangyang Maehwa Festival, shuttle buses will operate on weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) to connect the downtown area and the festival venue.
The shuttle bus service was arranged to improve accessibility for festival visitors, alleviate traffic congestion, and create a safe and pleasant viewing environment.
The buses will operate on four days: March 14, March 15, March 21, and March 22, with six one-way trips per day. The route starts at Gwangyang Terminal, passes through the Gwangyang City Tourist Information Center, and continues to Gwangyang Maehwa Village. For the return journey, the bus departs from Gwangyang Maehwa Village, stops at the Tourist Information Center, and heads back to Gwangyang Terminal.
Departure times from Gwangyang Terminal are 8:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., and 1:00 p.m. At the Jungma-dong Tourist Information Center, passengers can board 30 minutes after each departure time from the terminal.
Return buses depart from Gwangyang Maehwa Village four hours after each corresponding departure, at 1:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 3:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m., and 5:00 p.m. Passengers must use the same vehicle for their return trip as the one used for departure.
The buses have 45 seats, which are operated on a free-seating basis. The fare is 5,000 won per person for a round trip. If the maximum number of passengers is exceeded for a given trip, reservations will not be accepted. Payment must be made by bank transfer at least one day before boarding.
Reservations must be made in advance through the "MY Gwangyang" app, and the reservation period is from March 9 to March 15. One person can reserve for themselves and accompanying guests, and passengers should present their app reservation details when boarding.
A Gwangyang City official stated, "We expect the operation of the downtown shuttle buses to ease traffic congestion and provide visitors with a safer and more convenient transportation environment. As the service is operated on a pre-reservation basis, we ask citizens and tourists wishing to use the shuttle to complete the application and payment within the designated period. We also encourage the active use of public transportation and the shuttle buses to help disperse traffic and ensure the smooth operation of the festival."
