Daum Revives "Realtime Trending Search" After 6 Years... Relaunches with AI Integration
"Realtime Trend" Beta Launch
Updated Every 10 Minutes, Excluding Election-Related Keywords
Portal Daum is reintroducing its real-time trending search service after six years.
On March 4, AXZ, a Kakao subsidiary that operates Daum, announced that Daum began the beta service of its real-time trending search feature, 'Real-Time Trend,' starting the previous day.
This marks the first time in approximately six years that Daum has resumed its real-time search service since it was discontinued in February 2020.
AXZ stated, "We are launching this service to deliver rapidly changing issues more quickly and accurately."
'Real-Time Trend' is located at the top right corner of the search bar on Daum’s homepage and displays the top 10 trending keywords. The rankings are updated every 10 minutes.
However, measures have been put in place to address previous political controversies. From 60 days before local election days, keywords related to registered candidates and relevant individuals will be excluded from the rankings. This is seen as a move to address criticism that real-time search rankings have fueled conflict and heightened social divisions during election periods.
AXZ explained that this new service is an advanced approach, combining technology accumulated through the operation of 'Today Bubble' and 'AI Issue Briefing.' Unlike the previous system, which relied solely on search volume counts, the new system integrates and analyzes various documents and search logs from multiple sources, while establishing guardrails (safety measures) to enhance objectivity and minimize external risks.
AXZ expressed hope that "users will find not only useful information related to daily life and safety, but also issues that help build social consensus."
