Mayor Park Hyungjun: "Eliminating Language Barriers in Foreigners' Medical Care"... Building an AI Medical Support Platform
Busan City, Medical Community, Media, and Companies Sign Business Agreement
AI Translation and Reservation System Introduced in 16 Languages
The Busan Metropolitan Government is breaking down language barriers for foreigners facing medical situations by introducing an artificial intelligence (AI)-based multilingual reservation system.
On March 4 at 2:30 p.m., Busan City announced that it would sign a "Financial business agreement for improving convenience in the use of medical institutions for foreigners based on AI" together with the Busan Metropolitan Hospital Association, Busan Ilbo, and Worlddagachi at the International Protocol Room in Busan City Hall.
This agreement aims to create an environment in which foreigners residing in or visiting Busan can access local medical services without language barriers, while also strengthening the global competitiveness of regional hospitals. The signing ceremony will be attended by Mayor Park Hyungjun, Park Jongho, President of the Busan Metropolitan Hospital Association, Son Youngshin, CEO of Busan Ilbo, and Kwon Haeseok, CEO of Worlddagachi, who will sign the agreement. The term of the agreement is one year from the date of signing.
Under this agreement, the Busan Metropolitan Government will be responsible for administrative and institutional support to establish a foreigner-friendly medical environment. The Busan Metropolitan Hospital Association will support member hospitals’ participation in the platform and system integration, and will cooperate in utilizing the reservation system to attract foreign patients and in developing joint models to improve medical service processes.
Busan Ilbo will actively promote the medical services for foreigners and the status of local medical institutions’ participation in the platform. Through feature articles and content production, it will raise awareness of the platform and contribute to spreading the image of Busan as a global city.
Worlddagachi will provide its own AI-based multilingual medical reservation system and serve as a technological bridge connecting hospitals and foreign patients. The company will also work to resolve language communication issues for foreign patients by offering real-time interpretation and translation support, as well as linking to services that provide accompaniment during hospital visits.
The city plans to use this agreement as an opportunity to begin full-scale connection between medical institutions and the platform, and to continuously enhance foreigners’ access to medical care through support such as volunteer assistance.
Mayor Park Hyungjun stated, "This is a meaningful starting point for administrative authorities, the medical community, the media, and private companies to work together organically and achieve innovative improvements in the medical environment that foreign residents and visitors can truly experience." He added, "We will establish an integrated support system that eliminates language barriers throughout the entire process from registration to treatment and post-care, thereby improving Busan’s living conditions as a global city."
