Two Teens Who Posted Death Threats Against President Referred to Prosecution Without Detention
Obstruction of the Performance of Official Duties by Intimidation and Fraudulent Means
Teenagers who posted death threats against President Lee Jaemyung on an online message board have been handed over to the prosecution.
The Cyber Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced on the 24th that it had referred a teenage male, identified as A, and another teenage male, identified as B, to the prosecution without detention on charges of intimidation and obstruction of the performance of official duties by fraudulent means.
According to the police, they are accused of writing a post on the online message board of the 119 Safety Report Center on September 4 last year, stating that they would kill President Lee.
The police investigation found that in March last year, A also wrote a death threat post targeting students at a high school in Asan, South Chungcheong Province. The police referred A to the prosecution on additional charges of public intimidation and obstruction of the performance of official duties by fraudulent means.
The police are also investigating allegations that A posted similar death threats targeting students at a high school in Incheon and a middle school in Gwangju.
