Yangju City Provides 400,000 Won in Lunar New Year Welfare Benefits to 463 SME Workers
Support for 39 Companies Through the Gyeonggi Joint Labor Welfare Fund
Local Currency Payments Expected to Revitalize Traditional Markets and Neighborhood Businesses
Yangju City in Gyeonggi Province has provided 400,000 won in Lunar New Year welfare benefits to 463 workers from 39 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that participate in the Gyeonggi Joint Labor Welfare Fund (No. 1).
The welfare benefits are provided in the form of Yangju City local currency so that they can be used at local stores such as traditional markets and neighborhood businesses. By supporting workers and at the same time encouraging local consumption, the city also expects a virtuous cycle effect on the local economy.
The Gyeonggi Joint Labor Welfare Fund is a fund jointly created by Yangju City, local SMEs, Gyeonggi Province, and the central government, and has continued to provide support for the second year since its launch in February 2025.
The holiday support payments are expected to help improve workers' quality of life and working conditions, and also strengthen corporate competitiveness, by providing a level of welfare benefits that would be difficult for individual companies to fund on their own.
This support was prepared to ease the perceived holiday expenses of workers, whose financial burden has grown due to high prices and an economic downturn, and to enhance their actual satisfaction with welfare. Going forward, the city plans to continue expanding the Gyeonggi Joint Labor Welfare Fund program in cooperation with Gyeonggi Province and local SMEs.
