On February 11, the Daejeon Tourism Organization appointed eight new members as the 9th Daejeon Convention Ambassadors at the Daejeon Convention Center to attract major international conferences in science and technology and to invigorate the foundation of the Daejeon MICE industry.

The eight appointees for the 9th Daejeon Convention Ambassadors are: Professor Kim Jeong of KAIST; Professor Kim Cheolhee of Chungnam National University; Principal Researcher Kim Hyeonok of the Korea Aerospace Research Institute; Principal Researcher Park Jeongmi of the Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology; Principal Researcher Seon Changkuk of the Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources; Professor Yoon Gyeongjun of Paichai University; Principal Researcher Lee Changgyu of the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute; and Principal Researcher Lim Eunkyung of the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute.

During their two-year term, the newly appointed Daejeon Convention Ambassadors are expected to contribute to revitalizing the foundation of Daejeon’s international conference industry by identifying information on new international conferences based on their respective areas of expertise and global networks, jointly promoting the Daejeon MICE industry to domestic and overseas decision-makers, and engaging in cooperative marketing to attract international conferences in the field of science and technology.

The Daejeon Convention Ambassador system is an advisory council for attracting international conferences that has been operated since 2009 to strengthen Daejeon’s competitiveness in attracting international conferences through cooperation with experts in key science and technology fields.

To date, the organization has appointed a total of 76 convention ambassadors and has been continuously pursuing international conference bids and joint marketing activities by leveraging their expertise in each field and their global networks.

In particular, through cooperation with the Daejeon Convention Ambassadors, the organization has successfully attracted and hosted medium- and large-scale science and technology-based international conferences such as the 2025 International Society for Animal Genetics Conference (ISAG), the 2025 Medical Image Computing and Computer Assisted Intervention Conference (MICCAI), the 2026 World Conference on Photovoltaic Energy Conversion (WCPEC-9), the 2027 Progress in Electromagnetics Research Symposium (PIERS), and the 2027 World Conference on Carbon (Carbon), thereby achieving tangible results through joint bidding and marketing efforts.

Kim Yongwon, President of the Daejeon Tourism Organization, said, “The extensive international experience and expertise of the Daejeon Convention Ambassadors will be a major driving force for the growth of the Daejeon MICE industry and for revitalizing efforts to attract international conferences,” adding, “We expect to continuously expand this human network, strengthen our competitiveness in attracting international conferences in key science and technology fields, and further develop Daejeon into a truly global science MICE city.”
