Uiryeong County Launches "Gyeongsangnam-do Simultaneous Wildfire Prevention Campaign" After Large Wildfire Risk Warning Issued
Ensuring Thorough and Rapid Initial Response in Case of Emergency
Uiryeong County in Gyeongsangnam-do announced on the 11th that, as a large wildfire risk warning has been issued for seven cities and counties in the province including Uiryeong due to recent dry weather and strong winds, the county and its towns and townships carried out a Gyeongsangnam-do-wide simultaneous wildfire prevention campaign.
Uiryeong Deputy County Governor Pyo Jueop attended a joint kickoff ceremony held at the parking lot of the Jagulsan hiking trail in Chilgok-myeon, where about 60 people from the county office, towns and townships, Uiryeong Fire Station, the forestry cooperative, and the volunteer fire brigade took part, and emphasized the importance of wildfire prevention. Afterwards, he personally visited senior centers in villages and farmhouses adjacent to forests to conduct wildfire prevention publicity and guidance activities.

The county focused its publicity on banning the careless disposal of cigarette butts, prohibiting the burning of trash and agricultural by-products, and managing embers from wood-fired boilers and kitchen hearths. It also informed residents about the revised Forest Disaster Prevention Act, under which a fine of 500,000 won is imposed for unauthorized burning. In each town and township, the town or township mayor personally took part and carried out individual publicity activities targeting village senior centers and farmhouses that use wood-fired boilers.
