View original imageThe Dongducheon Complex Cultural Community Center is a facility created by the city government through the purchase and redevelopment of a building once known as the "Foreigner Apartments," which had been left neglected for a long time after the withdrawal of U.S. forces in the 1990s. The building had previously housed U.S. military personnel and civilian employees. It is now establishing itself as a key base for cultural regeneration, injecting new vitality into the once-declining old downtown.
Based on the stable operation of the past year, the city plans to gradually implement a field-oriented utilization strategy that leverages the functions and expertise of each institution, from the Youth Startup Support Center on the first floor to the Media Center on the seventh floor.
The first-floor Youth Startup Support Center will expand customized education programs to strengthen support for young people's employment and start-ups, while the second-floor Living Culture Center will broaden its role as a base where citizens can voluntarily engage in cultural activities such as dance, musical instrument performance, and theater.
The third-floor Youth Culture House, Youth Counseling and Welfare Center, and Out-of-School Youth Support Center will be operated in an integrated manner, linking youth cultural activity support with counseling and educational programs, in order to systematically support the healthy growth of young people.
In addition, the Orbit Library on the fourth to sixth floors will expand its collection to reflect user preferences and will run a variety of cultural events, including reading culture promotion programs based on books, humanities lectures, and classical and jazz performances, to continuously energize the old downtown area.
Finally, the seventh-floor Media Center plans to actively support the activities of local creators by providing training for one-person media creators, practical and editing education in digital media, and media production education utilizing AI.
