The family of the late Seo Heewon has refuted rumors that singer Koo Junyup is in a dispute over his late wife’s inheritance, calling the claims "highly malicious in intent."
According to Taiwanese outlet ET Today on the 10th, some local media recently reported that "Koo Junyup is preparing for a legal battle with his mother-in-law over Seo Heewon’s inheritance," adding that "contrary to outward appearances, the relationship between the two sides is complicated." In response, Seo Heewon’s mother denied the rumors, saying, "I deeply detest lawsuits that waste money and manpower," and added, "I now call Koo Junyup my son. He deeply loved my daughter and respects me, and I love him as well."
Seo Heewon’s younger sister, Seo Heeje, also expressed anger, saying, "The intentions of those spreading such rumors are very impure and their hearts are filthy." She continued, "Koo Junyup gave my sister the purest love and allowed her to feel true happiness," adding, "We will only protect him and will never hurt him."
The estate of Seo Heewon, a famous Taiwanese actress, amounts to at least 650 million New Taiwan dollars (about 28.6 billion won). Under Taiwanese law, it is to be divided equally, one-third each, among three people: Koo Junyup and the couple’s two minor children. However, in February last year, Koo Junyup stated, "All of the inheritance was accumulated through blood and sweat by Heewon during her lifetime to protect the family she loved, so I intend to give all of my rights to my mother-in-law," and added, "As for the children’s share, I will take legal measures through a lawyer so that it will be protected until they become adults and so that bad people cannot touch it."
