NCSoft Swings to Operating Profit Despite Lower Revenue... Net Profit Also Jumps 269%
Revenue of 1.5069 Trillion Won, Operating Profit of 16.1 Billion Won
NCSoft succeeded in returning to an operating profit last year despite a decline in revenue. Net profit increased sharply as a one-off factor from the sale of its office building was reflected.
NCSoft announced on the 10th that on a consolidated basis last year it recorded revenue of 1.5069 trillion won, operating profit of 16.1 billion won, and net profit of 347.4 billion won. Annual revenue fell 5% year-on-year, while operating profit swung to a surplus. Net profit jumped 269% from a year earlier as the proceeds from the sale of NCTower 1 were reflected.
By region, revenue was 928.3 billion won in Korea, 277.5 billion won in Asia, and 124.7 billion won in North America and Europe. Royalty revenue was 176.4 billion won, and overseas plus royalty revenue accounted for 38% of the total. By platform, mobile game revenue was 794.4 billion won and PC online game revenue was 430.9 billion won.
Revenue in the fourth quarter of last year was 404.2 billion won, up 12% from the previous quarter. Over the same period, operating profit was 3.2 billion won, while net loss came to 1.5 billion won.
PC online game revenue came in at 168.2 billion won, driven by the strong performance of "Aion 2," which was launched in November last year. This represents an increase of 92% from the previous quarter and 80% from the same period a year earlier. It was also the highest quarterly revenue since 2017.

NCSoft explained that last year it focused on securing a mid- to long-term growth base by expanding investments at home and abroad. This year, the company plans to strengthen its global competitiveness through: the global service rollout of "Aion 2" and the launch of new titles such as Cinder City, Time Takers, and Limit Zero Breakers; the launch and regional expansion of spin-off games based on existing intellectual property (IP); and the establishment of a mobile casual platform ecosystem through mergers and acquisitions (M&A).
