Dongducheon City Launches Joint Crackdown on Country-of-Origin Labeling for "Safe Lunar New Year Food"
Dongducheon City in Gyeonggi Province will conduct a special inspection in cooperation with honorary inspectors for agricultural and marine products country-of-origin labeling until the 13th, ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday. This measure is in response to increased consumption of agricultural, livestock, and marine products for holiday ritual foods and gifts, and is intended to prevent potential violations of country-of-origin labeling rules.
This inspection will focus on fruits, grains, and wild greens, which are widely consumed for ritual offerings and gifts, as well as livestock and marine products. The city plans to provide guidance and carry out inspections at medium- and large-sized distributors and traditional markets within its jurisdiction, concentrating on failures to indicate the country of origin, violations of labeling methods, and acts of damaging or altering country-of-origin labels.
If the country of origin is not indicated, a fine of up to 10 million won will be imposed in accordance with relevant laws. If the country of origin is falsely indicated, the violator will face imprisonment for up to seven years or a fine of up to 100 million won.
