Chicken That Sold a Pack Every 3 Seconds Last Year... CJ CheilJedang Expands New Products This Year
CJ CheilJedang launches new products including "Gourmet Sobaba Chicken Red Hot Boneless"
CJ CheilJedang is accelerating its push into the market by expanding its product lineup with chicken in a variety of flavors and formats.
On the 6th, CJ CheilJedang announced the launch of four new products: "Gourmet Sobaba Chicken Red Hot Boneless," "CJ Sichuan Style Mala Chicken," "CJ Dakgangjeong," and "CJ Crispy Chicken Tenders." Last year, CJ CheilJedang surpassed sales of 12 million packs of chicken, recording its highest-ever sales volume and revenue. This translates to roughly one pack sold every 3 seconds, and the popularity appears to stem from the fact that consumers can easily enjoy restaurant-quality taste at home at a relatively reasonable price.
The fourth flavor in the hit "Gourmet Sobaba Chicken" line, "Red Hot Boneless," is characterized by its addictively spicy kick. It delivers a non-cloying heat with a "special Red Hot sauce" that combines red chili peppers with the deep sweetness of strawberry jam, and CJ CheilJedang's proprietary "sauce-coating technology" evenly applies a thin layer of the sauce to the chicken, preserving a just-fried crispiness.
"CJ Sichuan Style Mala Chicken" is made by cutting large pieces from various parts of the chicken, including drumsticks, wings, and breast-on-bone sections, and coating them with authentic mala sauce to bring out a spicy and tingling flavor. It can be easily prepared using a microwave or air fryer. Following the "CJ Jamaica Style Chicken" launched in September last year, this is the second "bone-in chicken" product, broadening consumer options in the frozen chicken market, which has traditionally focused on boneless and wing/drum products.
CJ CheilJedang plans to directly target demand in the dining-out and delivery markets by emphasizing the restaurant-quality taste and reasonable pricing of "Gourmet Sobaba Chicken Red Hot Boneless" and "CJ Sichuan Style Mala Chicken." In fact, both products are gaining popularity among younger consumers who seek intensely spicy flavors.
The company has also released "CJ Dakgangjeong" and "CJ Crispy Chicken Tenders," which can be prepared easily and enjoyed as everyday dishes such as bar snacks or light meals. "CJ Dakgangjeong" features tender Korean whole chicken breast coated in a sweet, spicy, and thick sauce, with a triple-fried batter that delivers the signature crisp texture of Dakgangjeong. "CJ Crispy Chicken Tenders" are made from 100% Korean chicken tenderloin, maintaining juicy meat inside while being fried to a crisp, achieving the desired contrast of a crunchy exterior and moist interior. All four new products are available at major hypermarkets and online distribution channels.
