Gwangjang Recruits Former Korea Legislation Research Institute AI Legislation Team Head Dr. Jeong Wonjun
Expert in Artificial Intelligence and Data Legislation Research
On February 4, law firm Gwangjang announced that it has recruited Dr. Jeong Wonjun as Senior Research Fellow of the TMT & DPC Group in order to strengthen its advisory capabilities in the fields of artificial intelligence and data law.
Dr. Jeong is an expert who has conducted extensive legislative research and policy advisory work in the field of IT and digital regulation. He graduated from the Department of Law at Sungkyunkwan University and obtained a master’s degree in commercial law and a doctorate in intellectual property law from Korea University. He worked for about 14 years at the Korea Information Society Development Institute and the Korea Legislation Research Institute, both government-funded research institutes, serving as head of the AI (artificial intelligence) Legislation Team, and has been recognized as a principal researcher with specialized capabilities that combine legal theory with practice.
In particular, through advisory and committee activities for numerous government ministries and agencies, including the Ministry of Science and ICT, the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy Committee, the Office for Government Policy Coordination, the Personal Information Protection Commission, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the Intellectual Property Office, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, he has contributed to the development of national policies and has been awarded multiple honors, including a Prime Minister’s Commendation for contributions to information and communications and three ministerial commendations.
Based on his experience in government advisory work and research, Dr. Jeong, as Senior Research Fellow of Gwangjang’s TMT & DPC Group, is expected to provide legal advisory services and legislative consulting on artificial intelligence law, data law, personal information protection law, intellectual property law, and science and technology law, as well as advisory work on related regulations and policies.
The Gwangjang TMT & DPC Group is responsible for work related to Tech & AI, telecommunications and broadcasting, data and personal information protection, and hacking incident response. Led by attorney Go Hwan-gyeong (31st class of the Judicial Research and Training Institute), the group is composed of about 80 experts in total.
