Conservative and Centrist Unification Alliance Confirms Kwon Soonki as Gyeongnam Superintendent Candidate
On January 30, the "Gyeongnam Superintendent Conservative and Centrist Candidate Unification Alliance," which has been working to unify the conservative and centrist camps ahead of the Gyeongnam Superintendent of Education election scheduled for June, confirmed Kwon Soonki, former president of Gyeongsang National University, as its final candidate.
The unification alliance held a press conference at the Gyeongnam Teachers' Association Hall on January 30 and announced that, based on the results of a public opinion poll, Kwon was selected as the sole candidate representing the conservative and centrist camps.
Choi Byunghun, former director of the School Policy Division at the Gyeongnam Office of Education, who also participated in the primary, did not make it to the final candidacy. The approval ratings for each candidate were not disclosed.
In his acceptance speech, Kwon expressed his gratitude to the residents of Gyeongnam for choosing him as the unified conservative and centrist candidate, stating, "I will change the reality where people leave Gyeongnam because of education, and instead create an environment where people come to Gyeongnam for educational opportunities." Choi also remarked, "Let us join forces for change in Gyeongnam's education."
This public opinion poll was conducted by Media Tomato, commissioned by the unification alliance, over two days on January 28 and 29, targeting 1,102 men and women aged 18 and older residing in Gyeongnam, using the ARS (automated response system) method.
