Park Soo-hyun, chief spokesperson for the Democratic Party, said in a briefing after the funeral that day, "We pray for the eternal rest of former Prime Minister Lee, who has led the cause of democracy and the tasks of our era in the Republic of Korea." He added, "Even when his health was failing, former Prime Minister Lee fulfilled his public duties to the end as Executive Vice Chairman of the National Unification Advisory Council for Democratic Peace, never leaving his post. The Democratic Party will not forget his dedication to peace on the Korean Peninsula and will carry on his legacy."
Chief spokesperson Park also stated, "We will elevate the completion of the administrative capital, which he led for balanced national development, into a balanced growth strategy based on the five major regions and three special areas. After the briefing, Park expressed his gratitude to reporters regarding Jang Donghyuk, leader of the People Power Party, who paid his respects at the funeral the previous day, saying, "Although he may not have fully recovered his health after his hunger strike, we sincerely thank him for coming to pay his respects."
