This initiative involves digitizing non-electronic important records that had been stored at various schools. Starting in 2019, the project digitized a total of 2.15 million pages of student records from 23 specialized high schools and 89 general high schools in the province over four years from 2020. Subsequently, through the digitization of elementary and middle school records, the project covered 158 schools in the Chuncheon region in 2024 and 160 schools in the Wonju region in 2025, bringing the total number of digitized pages to 5.93 million to date.

In 2026, the project will digitize non-electronic student records-such as student record books, graduation registers, and expulsion registers-held by 160 elementary and middle schools and education support offices in six Yeongdong regions: Gangneung, Sokcho-Yangyang, Donghae, Taebaek, Samcheok, and Goseong. With this, the digitization of all student records will be completed.

The important records digitization project involves organizing and classifying non-electronic records, creating indexed lists, converting them into electronic images (scanning), and making them searchable and viewable through the standard records management system.

Additionally, in connection with this project, the Provincial Office of Education is developing the "Gangwon Education E-Certificate System," which will allow users to easily obtain old student records online. The system is scheduled to launch officially in March 2026.

Lee Hyunghee, Head of the General Affairs Division, stated, "The digitization of important records not only ensures their safe preservation but also greatly increases their usability. We expect that this will significantly reduce the time required for viewing and verifying records during civil service issuance, enabling us to provide residents with faster and more convenient administrative services."
